The county judge of Smith County presides over the five-member commissioners court.  That court has budgetary and administrative authority over county government operations as stated in the Texas Local Government Code.  The county judge handles a wide range of county matters including acting as the budget officer of the county, calling elections, posting election notices, and canvassing elections.  In addition the county judge has judicial responsibilities and presides over the County Court of Smith County.   For more information regarding that court, please click here.
