Mission Statement
The Smith County Veterans Court’s mission is to successfully rehabilitate the Justice Involved Veteran by diverting them from the traditional criminal justice system (jail) and providing them with treatment and the tools they need to lead a productive and law-abiding lifestyle while improving mental health recovery and successful re-entry into the community.

Purpose and Duties
Our purpose and duty through this pre-trial diversion program diversion program that is specifically for veterans who have an honorable discharge or can be active duty with the United State Military, Reserves, National Guard or State Guard. There must be a diagnosis for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), a mental health disorder, conditions cause by/made worse by veterans military service or be a survivor of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Smith County both a felony program which last two years and the misdemeanor program can las any were from one year to two years depending on your charge. With the charge you were committed with we have to draw a nexus to the diagnosed mental health disorder or condition from time in service. Not all may be eligible or accepted into this program.
Disqualifying Charges
- Capital Murder
- Pre-Meditated Murder
- Aggravated Kidnapping
- Any Sex Crimes
- Any crimes committed against elderly, a child, or disabled person.
- The sale, manufacture or destitution of controlled substance.
- Veteran has prior conviction of any kind listed disqualifying crime are not eligible to participate in the Smith County Veterans Treatment Court.
