Smith County, TX
Home MenuThe Square - Downtown Tyler
The T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza, also known as "the square," is open to the public and can be reserved on a first come, first serve basis at no cost. Running water and electrical outlets are located throughout the Square and can be turned on when an event is approved. Available electrical outlets are limited to standard 110v outlets. Any other electrical needs will not be provided by Smith County.
Square Reservation Policy
All square reservation requests MUST be submitted in writing to Commissioners Court staff for approval. No automatically reoccurring events will be scheduled. All reservations must be approved separately. Smith County can only provide reservations for the space within the boundaries of the square. For more information about the county's application, call 903-590-4607.
An approved application to reserve the square ensures that groups have access to electricity and provides notice of the event to the county administration and to others in the community who may be interested in gathering at the same time.
An approved application is not a “permit,” and does not result in exclusive use of the physical space of the square. Because the square is a public space, a reservation alone does not otherwise prohibit access by members of the public during any planned gathering.
If security is needed for an event, it is the responsibility of the event organizer to hire security.
Smith County encourages any groups planning an activity for the Square to check with Smith County Communication Director Casey Murphy at cmurphy@smith-county.com, regarding the availability of any date and time, and then to fill out an application in advance of the intended use. Approved events and applications can also be found below.
