Smith County Commissioners Court entered into an agreement with Texas PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) Authority, a Texas nonprofit business association that serves as a financial tool for property owners to upgrade facility infrastructure.
Approved by State legislation and established by local governments, TX-PACE programs enable owners to lower their operating costs and use the savings to pay for eligible water conservation, energy efficiency, resiliency, and distributed generation projects, according to www.texaspaceauthority.org. Owners gain access to private, affordable, long-term financing that is not available through traditional funding avenues.
Eligible properties include commercial (including nonprofit), multi-family and industrial. This program is not for residential home owners.
About 60 counties and cities in Texas have entered into agreements with the Texas PACE Authority. A public hearing, in which no one spoke, was held in Commissioners Court on September 7, 2021, before Commissioners voted to enter into the agreement.
